Argentina qualifies for 2006 world cup

Argentina qualified for the 2006 world cup in a match against the defending champions Brazil. This brings to six the total number of teams qualifying for the 2006 world cup.

Argentina beat Brazil 3-1 at the River Plate stadium.

This was the first time that Argentina beat Brazil since 2001.

The hosts hustled Brazil out of their stride, opening the scoring in less than four minutes with Crespo's first goal, and raced to a 3-0 lead before halftime.

The Argentine newspaper Ole said:

The Argentine shirt in Buenos Aires frightens them. It was a dance -- tango, samba, whichever rhythm you prefer.
