Vijay Singh Elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame - Half elected?

This seems like an impressive feat, right? Vijay Singh elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame should make headlines all over the world, right? It would if the World Golf Hall of Fame didn't have, um, unique rules.

The World Golf Hall of Fame Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Jack Peter, was happy to announce:

Entering the World Golf Hall of Fame at age 42 provides perspective as to how remarkable Vijay Singh’s career has been to date. His ongoing competitive career provides inspiration to those entering the game today.

Yes, it is remarkable as Vijay Singh is the youngest member ever elected.

Typically, the organization requires 65% of the votes to win entrance. Singh only received 56 percent of the vote. He was able to get into the World Golf Hall of Fame due to a technicality:

Hall of Fame officials two years ago added a stipulation that if no one gets 65 percent, the players with the most votes will be elected provided he is on at least 50 percent of the ballots. It was the second time the Hall of Fame changed its criteria, lowering the standard from 75 percent to 65 percent in 2001 after no one from the PGA Tour was elected.

Interesting.
