Could there be a Stanley Cup this year? The Wednesday Nighters want a chance to play for it

I've missed the hockey season especially since the playoffs were supposed to start this week. It's hard to find as much excitement than you find during hockey playoffs. But without the NHL the pursuit of the Stanley Cup has died this year. Or has it?

A group of amateur hockey players in Canada called the Wednesday Nighters have filed a claim in Canadian court to to find out if this can happen. It turns out the Lord Stanley donated the cups, so the Wednesday Nighters are trying to force a decision.

David Burt, an amateur said:

This did start off as an amusing idea after Wednesday night hockey one night. I'm frustrated as most hockey fans are that the NHL and the NHLPA lost the season. I don't know which side of that issue I'm on. I'm just frustrated with the fact that there is no hockey being played. I don't think that's what Lord Stanley intended. I think he had a higher purpose for his donation.

Good luck to these guys!
