ESPN kills the NHL - contract terminated
The NHL, which is the worst run major sports network to ever exist, has been killed by ESPN.
ESPN had the option of picking up next season's NHL games for $60 million dollars and they have reportedly turned down that option.
This is the death knell for the NHL if true.
ESPN had already decided to scale back coverage of the NHL as it was being outranked in the ratings by poker and even soccer.
Some folks think ESPN might be using this as a ploy to pay less money, but still, this is huge sign you can stick a fork in the NHL as you know it today.
