Will New Jersey Devils change their name?

You know you're scraping the bottom of the barrel in hockey news when the lead story today is the New Jersey Devils under pressure to change their name.

In 1982 the New Jersey Devils held a contest to name their team. Someone thought it'd be a good idea to pick the Devils based not on your favorite anti-christ, but on the mythical creature that supposedly exists in New Jersey.

The Jersey Devil has a history too long to even begin to describe, but it's some sort of animal that lives in New Jersey and attacks people.

When you shift back to reality, the real issue is that State Assemblyman Craig Stanley is going ape over the name:

"This is an age where symbolism is very important."

The fact that Craig Stanley is a baptist minister must not play any part in this. Craig Stanley went on to say:

"I've always cringed when people say they're going to see the Devils. The merchandise, the paraphernalia is based on the actual demonic devil. Personally, it causes a little bit of an issue with me."
