US Women's soccer on a run again beats mexico
After Mia Hamm left the US Women's soccer team, who would have thought they'd continue to do well? They seem to be moving along without missing a beat after Mia Hamm left, and some of the best evidence for this is their 3-0 win over Mexico in the United States.
United States forward Amy Wabach scored on two headers. She was pretty much beaten up during the game and she said:
I was a little disappointed after we played Australia last week. I had a couple of headers that I felt like I should have put away. That’s my strong suit. That’s my go-to. When in doubt, I head and I didn’t against Australia. I worked on it this week and I kind of felt that it was coming back for me.
The women's team is doing a great job on defense, pitching a shut out for this year. Head coach Greg Ryan says:
We’re happy they didn’t score any goals on us. For us, that is a big thing; shutting teams down, not allowing any chances. We gave Mexico a good chance in the first half and we were a little lucky to keep that record going. I’m very happy to get eight wins and no losses with a very young team.
Kristine Lilly, the grand dame of the US midfield, played in her 299th cap. She said:
Yeah, I’m feeling it today. It definitely showed today because I was a bit tired, but it’s great. It’s about this team and the game, and if I can continue to be a part of it and hit 300 that’s great. Whenever we hit milestones we just hope that we get a win as well.
It's great to see US women's soccer back in the winning frame.
