Deaflympic Winter Games - Olympic Games for the Deaf?

Unbeknownst to me and I would presume almost everyone else, there is such a thing as the Deaflympics. As you can imagine, it's an Olympics for the hearing impaired.

I stumbled across the Deaflympics in a press release for a sponsor.

The organization is recognized by the  International Olympic Committee and has been operating since 1924. 300 athletes representing 20 nations are expected to contend for medals.

The events in the Deaflympics are as follows:

I can see how snowboarding, alpine and nordic skiing could be easily mastered without hearing, but ice hockey and curling? Wow.

Can you imagine the effort required to play ice hockey if you are deaf?
