Cael Sanderson coaching for life - may not wrestle again

Cael Sanderson owns the best record ever in competitive wrestling. Cael Sanderson wrestled his way to 159-0, four NCAA championships and a gold medal in the 2004 summer Olympics in Athens. But he's pretty content in never wrestling again.

Cael Sanderson is the assistant wrestling coach at Iowa State and he's enjoying the job.

Cael said:

Had I not won (in Athens) it probably would have been a different story. Right now, I'm content coaching. There are new challenges. I've been waking up for so many years with this goal, seeing what I can do that day to get to that goal.

A big part of Cael Sanderson's decision is based on the kids he's recruited, especially his brother:

But now I feel responsible. My brother's coming to school, we've got other recruits coming in. I want to make sure these guys are getting everything we promised them. If I got back into competing, they'd still be my priority and that would be kind of tough.

Freestyle wrestlers reach their prime in their mid to late 20s and Cael Sanderson is 26. Cael says:

I still feel like I'm competing. I'm competing for recruits. Maybe I can give more back to the wrestling world as a coach and help promote the sport that way.
