New York City's 2012 summer Olympic bid is dead
That gasp you hear isn't someone shuffling off the mortal coil, but the city of New York's chances to win the 2012 Summer Olympics. Paris and London are the lead dogs, but New York had a chance to be the spoiler. Had would be the key word here.
For New York City to have a chance to win the Olympics they needed a guarantee that a new stadium would be built. This commitment was to cover not only an Olympic stadium, but one that would eventually be used by the New York Jets.
The Olympic report released yesterday specifically mentioned the fact that New York City didn't have a commitment to build the stadium.
With only a month left until the Olympic committee selects the city, New York City's chances are dead.
Even though New York City had underdog odds at best, they could still have walked away with the 2012 Summer Olympics if they had committed to the stadium. Due to political fighting and back room deals they have lost their chance.
At this point the Olympics are Paris' to lose.
