New York delays vote on new stadium for Olympics
If you hadn't heard, New York is making a bid for the 2012 Summer Olympics in New York City. Although they are supposedly working towards this, time is running out. This can be best seen in the stadium deal that seems to be stuck in government purgatory.
The New York Olympic bid hinges upon a new stadium for track and field and other events. When the 2012 Summer Olympics are complete, the stadium would be used by the New York Jets NFL team.
Over the weekend it appears that the proposal is coming into trouble due to the addition of office space on the land. State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver believes the office space will compete with the plans for ground zero.
Sheldon Silver said:
"I think we have things a little backward."
Mayor Bloomberg of New York City thinks there is still a chance:
"I believe there's a way for us to get together and do what this city needs."
Unless someone comes to a compromise quickly, the chances of New York City securing the 2012 Summer Olympics will evaporate faster than sweat on a 100 degree day.
