Peter King Watch: Football Hall of Fame Disrespect
Peter King's latest Monday Morning Quarterback has a detailed look at the perceived disrespect of the Dallas Cowboys concerning the football hall of fame.
Peter talks about how Drew Pearson was complaining on the Dan Patrick show of disrespect shown to Dallas Cowboy players in terms of entry into the hall of fame.
Peter decided to do some research:
"So I thought, for the record, I'd look at the best teams of the past 45 years -- since the American Football League began playing -- and try to make some sort of judgments about which teams, if any, seem underrepresented in the Hall of Fame."
His top teams are as follows:
- Pittsburgh 1972-79
- Green Bay 1960-67
- Oakland 1967-83
- Dallas 1966-82
- Kansas City 1966-71
- Miami 1971-74
- Minnesota 1969-77
- San Francisco 1981-97
- Chicago 1984-91
- Buffalo 1988-93
- Washington 1982-92
- Denver 1986-98
- N.Y. Giants 1986-90
Peter ties it all together:
"The Broncos, who got to the NFL's Final Four six times in 13 years, were certainly John Elway's team. But the Cowboys were 2-3 in Super Bowls, same as Elway's Broncos, and seven Dallas guys from that era made the Hall. These numbers should be a boost to a candidate such as tackle Gary Zimmerman and perhaps safety Steve Atwater. Tight end Shannon Sharpe almost certainly will make it, although he's not eligible until 2009."
The rest of Monday Morning Quarterback features the standard fare. There are a couple of highlights:
- Peter thinks Paul Edinger is a stud.
- Peter thinks Tedy Bruschi will play again.
- Peter will have his Super Bowl picks soon.
