Peter King Watch: Who will win the NFL AFC in 2005?

Peter King is back with a new Monday Morning Quarterback and he features his AFC picks, hatred for Warren Sapp and Kellen Winslow, Jr. -- the idiot.

Peter King is a lover of all things New England Patriots and this week's MMQB doesn't disappoint.

Peter fawns over Bill Belichick and Tom Brady from the start:

The reason I thought having Belichick calling plays would work -- still do -- is because Tom Brady is a Univac computer out there on the field anyway, the perfect non-ego team guy to run an offense. Belichick is pretty much one with Brady when it comes to what works and what doesn't in New England's offense.

The only thing worse is how he opened his column with the continued man love for Brett Favre. I didn't bring that up because I know how easy it is to fall into a diabetic coma when you interact with so much sugar.

Peter does mention that the New England Patriots have a tough schedule at the beginning of the season:

I have no idea why Peter King thinks the Denver Broncos will give them a tough game as he never explains it.

Peter thinks it all comes down to the New England Patriots secondary:

I think if New England fails to repeat, it will be because the secondary doesn't hold up. I just have faith that Mangini and Belichick will be able to scotch-tape something together if Starks goes down early. They were able to win without Law and Tyrone Poole for big chunks last year.

I don't get it. They were able to hold up last year with a banged up secondary, so why would this year be different? Peter doesn't explain.

Here is how Peter King says the 2005 AFC season will play out:

Division champs: New England, Pittsburgh, Jacksonville, San Diego.
Wild Cards: Indianapolis, Buffalo.
AFC Championship Game, at Foxboro Jan. 22: New England 19, San Diego 6.

I don't think the New England Patriots will make the playoffs this year.

Peter then brings us his quote of the week, which is quite entertaining. It concerns the Oakland Raiders' Warren Sapp, who always could stand to be knocked down a peg or two:

"I hate him. He talks too much. He talks too much, he doesn't make sense, he's fat, he's sloppy, he acts like he's the best thing since sliced bread, he's ugly, he stinks, his mouth stinks, his breath stinks and basically his soul stinks too.''
-- Carolina defensive tackle Kris Jenkins on Oakland defensive tackle Warren Sapp.

Hopefully this is the last we hear of Kellen Winslow, Jr. -- the idiot:

1. I think Kellen Winslow Jr. is going to have a very tough time of it -- not, apparently, that he cares -- if his dad keeps speaking out in his defense. I understand the frustration Kellen Winslow Sr. has dealing with the media, which he feels was unfair in pursuing his son when his son wanted privacy after injuring himself in his motorcycle accident. You know, I might do the same thing if my kid was a jillion-dollar bonus baby in professional sports. But you know what? I'd be wrong. Kellen Jr. is a jillion-dollar bonus baby in a very, very, very public business, and he should be accountable for his mistake in some way other than a ridiculous "personal" statement written by someone else. Face the music, kid. If you don't, there will be sharks in the water now, and for a long time. And your father won't always be there to speak for you when the sharks surface.

Peter nailed this.

Overall an excellent article and I hope he's dispatched to visit the NFL training camps.
