Terrell Owens, Dick Vermeil, Sheryl Crow and the best running back in the NFL
We had Bernie watch back yesterday, so why not bring back a Peter King watch. This week Peter King reviews the Terrell Owens situation and much more. As you know, Peter is quickly becoming the elder statesman of the NFL.
Peter kicks off his weekly column by discussing the Terrell Owens monstrosity. Peter published his column before yesterday afternoon's decision by the Eagles to suspend Owens. Peter was right on the mark when he said:
And so one of the strangest star tenures in NFL will be over. I didn't see it ending like this, but there's only one person to blame for it. That idiot Terrell Owens.
King isn't a psychic, but he's seen his fair share of contract disputes, so you have to trust his instinct on this. I don't think Owens will play again this year, but I do see him landing somewhere next year. I wouldn't be surprised if it's with another team in the NFC East.
Rolling through Peter's column we get to the section on where he ponders the move Dick Vermeil made to go for the win at home on Sunday. I loved the call, and screamed in excitement when Larry Johnson sailed over the pile. More coaches in the NFL need to adopt this approach instead of playing it safe. I know Dom Capers won't be the coach of the Texans for long, but he is the master at doing this.
Here's what Peter said about Dick Vermeil:
Great call. And I wouldn't have ripped him if it didn't work. His decision makes all the sense in the world. Would you rather risk it all on a one-yard rush with a running back who's had a good day? Or would you rather risk it all on a coin flip?
Perfect summation and reaction. Imagine the message Vermeil sent to his offense. He believes in them.
Peter also touches on Sheryl Crow with the quote of the week when she was discussing her being the halftime entertainer during a Thanksgiving game:
I can promise you at this game there will be no wardrobe malfunction.
The best thing about Peter's column is his take on whether LaDainian Tomlinson has been the best running back in football. As you can see in his chart Tiki Barber should get some consideration. Barber beats Tomlinson in total yards.
