Are NFL teams addicited to the pass

Pat Kirwan writed for NFL.com, and recently penned a column talking about how NFL teams are becoming pass happy. He throws around some statistics, but also argues three points that show why this fact is true. Let's take a look at them.

Team choose taller wide receivers. It's Pat's contention that taller wide receivers have a better chance at getting to balls that normally no one would have a chance at. I don't know if I agree with this, but I will say that taller wide receivers help with jump balls. One thing they don't help with is speed. Speed's a critical component of most offenses.

Defensive holding is the next think Pat brings up. I agree with him here. Had defensive holding been enforced as it has the last two seasons, the St. Louis Rams would have beaten the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. Yes, I am still bitter.

He goes on to say that teams now set up the run with the pass rather than the old school way of thinking where you set up the pass with the run. He doesn't present any statistics on this, but game observations.

I think teams are more willing to accept the risk that comes with passing. By no means do I think they're addicted to passing.
