NFL Predictions Week 8 2005 - Battle of the bays will lead to blood
Last week I went 9-5, A big thank you to the Bengals for blowing it! Here are the statistics so far:
Week 5 (14 games): 6-8 - 42%
Week 6 (14 games): 10-4 - 71%
Week 7 (14 games): 9-5 65%
Cumulative (42 games): 25-17 - 60%
This is the toughest week of the season, as almost every game could go either way. There is only one clear lock, and that is the Buccaneers over the 49ers.
Arizona at Dallas
Interesting game. I am still not sold on the quarterback pick by Dennis Green, but they are now 1-0. The Cowboys lost a heart breaker last week to Seattle giving up the ghost in the last minute. That follows their squeaker against the Giants that they lost. I don't think Parcells has lost control of the team, but I do know that they'll be ready to play. Sorry, Denny. Cowboys 24 - Cardinals 16.
Chicago at Detroit
Roar Lions, Roar. The first game with Joey Game Killer was a success, though it was against the hapless Browns. The Mooch has his defense pumped and primed, but the offense is horrible. The only saving grace is that the Bears have a worse offense. Can Jeff Garcia play like a 25 year old? Can Kyle Orton continue to not make mistakes? Unlikely on both counts, which makes this a defensive struggle. I don't believe yet, Mooch. Bears 17 - Lions 14.
Cleveland at Houston
This is the game that many feel will be the Texans first win. It won't. Even against the bad Browns the Texans won't win. Trent Dilfer should be yanked the first time he makes a huge mistake. Call me wacky, but I just don't see David Carr playing mistake free ball against the new Browns defense. Cleveland 24 - Texans 23.
Green Bay at Cincinnati
The Bengals tore my heart out last week when they laid down for the Steelers. That's not happening twice in a row, especially at home. The Packers are down to like their 6th string running back and some guy they found in the parking lot at receiver. Brett Favre is good, but he's not this good. Bengals 37 - Packers 17
Jacksonville at St. Louis
I get one homer pick a week and this is it. The logic part of me says there is no way the St. Louis Rams beat the Jaguars without Bulger, Bruce and Holt. My heart tells me the boys will rally around new coach Joe Vitt and offensive coordinator Steve Fairchild now that Mike Martz is gone. Rams 34 - Jaguars 27.
Minnesota at Carolina
The Vikings still suck, but they did beat the Packers last week after coming back from a 17-0 halftime deficit. No way they win against the Panthers. Jake may make some mistakes, but the Panthers defense will make an impact. Panthers 24 - Vikings 10.
Oakland at Tennessee
Raiders and Titans. Yawn. The dirtiest team in the NFL against the youngest. What's the under/over on total penalties? I do think that the Titans are going to have a great day on defense. The Raiders have some offensive tools, but they lost two defensive starters last week, so it's going to be a long day for them. Titans 17 - Raiders 13.
Washington at N.Y. Giants
This could be the most exciting game of the week. Both teams need to proved themselves with a win, and to continue making strides in the NFC East. The NFC East is turning into the toughest division to win in, so it's going to be fun to watch them. Remember, Eli is at home and he's money at home. Giants 30 - Redskins 24.
Kansas City at San Diego
Trent Green's father passed away, so I wonder if he'll have a game like Brett Favre did the week his dad passed away. I don't think so. At the same time the Chargers are beaten up, and you know last week's loss to the Eagles had to sting. This one is a toss up, but I am going with the Chargers. Chargers 37 - Chiefs 31.
Miami at New Orleans
I feel for the Saints, I really do. Playing all their games on the road, and having Aaron Brooks as your quarterback. Toss in Jim Haslett as your coach and you just plain suck. The Dolphins continue their experiment to see if the free marijuana Ricky Williams is any good. Brutal game to watch, but the Dolphins will pull it out. Dolphins 24 - Saints 17.
Philadelphia at Denver
The Broncos had their pride damaged in last week's game. Even though they hung over 200 yards of rushing on the Giants, they couldn't shut the door. Horrible. The Eagles escaped with a victory against the Chargers last week. Both teams were lucky, just not in the same way. You have to go with the Broncos and their running game in this one. Broncos 26 - Eagles 17.
Tampa Bay at San Francisco
Is Cadillac Williams going to play? I hope not as I have started Pittman on all my fantasy teams. The 49ers are coming off a bye, but they could be coming off three byes and they still couldn't beat the Buccaneers. This is the blow out of the week. Buccaneers 37 - Giants 10.
Buffalo at New England
The Patriots are like 9,781 and 0 coming off the bye. Yeah, I made that up, but they'll be ready to play and unbeatable at home. It doesn't matter if Jim Kelly in his prime was playing for the Bills on Sunday. This will be the second ugliest game of the week. Patriots 34 - Bills 13.
Baltimore at Pittsburgh
I can just see the ABC executives looking at the schedule and thinking the AFC North match up for Monday Night was a sure winner. Yeah, right. This will be a snooze fest and will be over by halftime. Even if they Ravens are only 7 behind there is no way they catch up. Steelers 24 - Ravens 10.
