NFL tries to run the outside in Los Angeles
Some things you never tire of trying. For me it's home improvement. I know that it should be easy if I break it down into small steps, but for whatever reason, small steps turn into large ones. Such is the case with the NFL where they are trying to run to the outside in securing a team for Los Angeles.
Paul Tagliabue is nothing but persistent. Today the news came out and it showed that the NFL reached an agreement to bring an NFL team to Los Angeles. The only problem is that there's no team. You read that right. Agreement was reached, but there is no team.
The agreement covers where the team will play, which we all know is the first step to moving a team to a city. I wonder if any team is looking to leave their city. Cough New Cough Orleans.
Paul Tagliabue has said that the New Orleans team won't be moving, yet he also said:
It's the first time we've had agreement on term sheets. We're one step closer, two or three steps closer. Whether it's 2009, 2010, or 2000-whatever, our goal is to have definitive agreements on all subject matters well before our league meetings in March.
What is there to talk about in the March meetings? Are you going to tell them how much the LA Coliseum rocks? That doesn't seem to require a meeting.
The tea leaves are pointing to the Saints moving as exposed to an expansion team. If an expansion team is awarded, the league would have an odd number of teams, something it doesn't like to do.
