Mexican National Soccer Team Defeats US National Soccer Team, March 2005
What a gut blow that was losing to the Mexican National Soccer Team. I had predicated the US National Soccer Team would win, but they were never really in the game.
As I watched the first half I was stunned how aggressive the Mexican National Soccer team was on offense. It's a very slick tactic as it eventually wears the defense down. What was stunning was the pathetic counter attack from the US National Soccer team. There was none.
The game ended as a 2-1 loss. No moral victory this time.
After the game the Coach Bruce Arena remarked:
Any way you look at it, altitude was a big factor. I believe our players shut down in the last 15 minutes of the first half and it cost us the game.
I called that as the altitude is in the Mexican National Soccer team's favor. There's no way to compensate it except for training at those altitudes.
