Manchester United fans to boycott sponsors
I used to think we had some pretty rabid fans here in the United States. We have the dog pound in Cleveland and the hogs in Washington, DC, but the real football fans are those who follow the first sport called football.
Malcolm Glazer is attempting to take the Manchester United soccer team private by buying all the outstanding shares. There's a group called Shareholders United who are trying to force the issue by boycotting the sponsors of Manchester United.
The main sponsors of Manchester United are:
- Nike
- Vodafone
- Budweiser
- Pepsi
- Audi
- Fuji
Shareholders United's goal is pretty simple:
"We are not telling supporters to make the ultimate sacrifice and stop going to games. But we are asking them not to buy any merchandise; don't buy any pints of Budweiser, any glasses of Pepsi, any videos, any programs."
Of course, why would you not boycott going to the games? Oh, you mean people would go anyway?
