GM Sponsors Major League Baseball for Three Years, $50 million dollars
In what sounds more like a signing than a sponsorship deal, GM signed on to be the official vehicle of major league baseball. Specifically, Chevrolet is the new vehicle of Major League Baseball. How does a company on such tenuous financial ground pull the trigger on something like this? For GM the sponsorship deal allows them to brand Chevrolet to many events including:
- Ted Williams All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award. I guess it'll be something like, "The Ted Williams All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award presented by Chevrolet."
- World Series Most Valuable Player Award. Not named after anyone, but why not name it after someone like Babe Ruth?
- Sponsor of the All-Star Game Selection Show. Wow. That's after the Ameriquest 2005 All-Star Final Vote. Can baseball pimp out more names?
They have also taken on "significant media commitments", which is code for ad buys. This includes the John Hancock All-Star Fan Fest and "This Week in Baseball" presented by Pepsi.
Sort of like sloppy seconds, eh?
