Did Ernie Nevers when a championship
Ernie Nevers was rated by his coach "Pop" Warner as a greater football player than Jim Thorpe whom he also coached. Warner coached Thorpe at Carlisle and Nevers at Stanford. What impressed "Pop" the most about Nevers was his wholeheartedness and his excellent scholastic record.
He made Walter Camp's third string All-American team in 1923 and made all the major All-American teams in 1925. His record set while with the Chicago Cardinals of 21 touchdowns in one season was not broken until 1965 by Gale Sayers of the Chicago Bears.
