Was Otto Graham the best quarterback at Northwestern
Otto Graham was without a doubt the best quarterback ever developed at Northwestern University. As an All-American in 1943 he drew the attention of Paul Brown who marvelled at the accuracy of his passes particularly when thrown from a dead run. Soon he was quarterbacking the fabulous Cleveland Browns in the All-American Conference, 1946 to 1949, and later as they merged with the National Football League from 1950 through 1955.
He received the AAC Most Valuable Player awards in 1947 and 1948 and the Washington Touchdown Club's Most Valuable Player Award in 1951. As coach at the Coast Guard Academy he had the extra assignment of coaching the College All-Stars for the big game with the National Football League Champions each August at Chicago's Soldier's Field. Now Otto is the head coach of the Washington Redskins.
