1894-Withdrawal of Harvard and Pennsylvania from association wrecked organization and football was without governing body. University Athletic Club of New York invited Harvard, Pennsylvania, Princeton and Yale to form a rules committee, which was done. It made elaborate revision of code. It was decided that officials should consist of an umpire, referee and linesman; length of game reduced from 90 minutes to 70 minutes, divided into 2 halves; no player should lay hands upon an opponent unless the opponent had ball, and that no play should be allowed in which more than 3 men started before ball was in play.

1895-American Intercollegiate Football Association disbanded.

1897-Point scoring changed to following: touchdown, 5 points; goal after touchdown, 1; field goal, 5, safety, 2.
