Why was Walter Camp important for football

Walter Camp originated All-American team selections which first appeared in the now defunct Collier's magazine. At present there are several different "All-American" teams, the best known of which are those of Associated Press and United Press International.

Walter Camp made football history at Yale University and is believed to have personally thrown the first forward pass in American Football. By having his quarterbacks drop back deep before throwing a forward pass he set the stage for modern football techniques. He holds the best record for a full season of play established in 1904. This was the year that Yale held 13 opponents scoreless while amassing 488 points for old Eli.
