History of George Halas
George Halas rates as the father of modern professional football. He has an uncanny sense of both timing and values. Not only was he listening to Bob Zuppke at the right time, but he understood the value of Bob's famous remark. So it has been with C. C. Pyle and the Red Grange contract, coach Shaughnessy's modern T-Formation, and more recently George Allen's system of defense.
When George Halas picked Gale Sayers as his first round draft choice people knew that his faculties had not been dulled by advancing years. His 73 to 0 Championship victory over the Redskins in 1940 is apt to stand as an all-time record. Reeves and the Rams may have grabbed George Allen, but "Papa Bear" is still "King".
