What was the football business about Amos Alonzo Stagg
Amos Alonzo Stagg is known as the "Grand Old Man" of football. He lived past 100 years of age and coached football almost to the very end of his life. Retired by the University of. Chicago after having reached the age of 70 he re-established his coaching career at College of the Pacific.
His clean living leadership not only continued to build great teams but it helped build his new school into what is now University of the Pacific. His "over and down" and "back and down" passes are still gaining long yardage today. Although outlawed today, his "guards back", "ends hack" and "tackle back" plays served to blunt the V-Formation and the Flying Wedge. He taught Jess Harper who taught Knute Rockne at Notre Dame.
