Who was Glenn Pop Warner
Glenn "Pop" Warner amassed a record for continuous coaching that spanned 46 years . . . a record exceeded only by that of A. A. Stagg. As a Cornell graduate with a law degree he began coaching in 1895 at the University of Georgia. He won fame in the years 1899 to 1914 as coach of the Carlisle Indians where he produced the alltime great, Jim Thorpe and other All-Americans.
After coaching three undefeated teams at the University of Pittsburgh he coached three Rose Bowl teams for Stanford within a 9 year period. "Pop" Warner also coached at Cornell and Temple University as well as San Jose State College. As the father of the Double Wing Formation, his spirit lives on today in the "Pop" Warner Junior Football Leagues for pre-teen and early-teen boys.
