Frank Leahy drew outstanding football players to Notre Dame like a magnet. Possessed of unusual speaking ability his banquet appearances all over America caused many a father to send his son to Notre Dame, not on some football scholarship, but on the father's hard earned savings.
Leahy also won and held the respect of thousands of football coaches throughout the country with his ability to stretchout-the-clock in the final minutes of a crucial game. Time and again Notre Dame would vanquish a tough competitor with as many as three touchdowns in the last three minutes. Ball stealing, causing fumbles, blocking kicks, the "inverted 7" pass and techniques for reducing player injuries to a minimum were some of his many contributions to the game.
