Charles Bud Wilkinson gave us a preview of the possibility that a well coached team might conceivably extend a winning streak indefinitely, if not forever. Other college coaches must have used their collective influences to get him "sidetracked" as Director of The President's Physical Fitness Program.
Meantime, back at Oklahoma, things have never been the same without their Bud Wilkinson. His Oklahoma teams won the National Championships two years in a row (1955 and 1956 ). Basically Wilkinson used a blend of several systems including the Pop Warner offenses and shot for certain target areas on the field for runs, blocks and pass receptions. As a leading advocate in recent years of the "Split T" formation, his achievements have influenced not only college, but Pro-Football. In fact, the Pro-T represents a compromise between the "Split T" and the "Single Wing."
