Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax
When Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax of the Los Angeles Dodgers were teammates and the two highest-paid pitchers in major-league history, Lady Luck didn't always favor both of them at the same time. One day, the Dodgers played a double-header against the unpredictable New York Mets.
Drysdale pitched the first game, brilliantly, but lost it in extra innings, by a 1-to-0 score. In disgust, he quickly dressed and left the ballpark to make a television appearance somewhere. Later, when he was apprised that his teammate, Sandy Koufax, had pitched a no-hit norun game against the Mets, he asked curiously:
"Did he win the game?"
