Herman Hickman Upset

When tough Herman Hickman was football coach at Yale University, he would become so upset at times that he would forget to mind his best Ivy League manners. One afternoon, his Yale team was locked in a fierce grid battle against its traditional rival, Princeton. Suddenly, the referee gave the signal for a costly penalty against Yale. Coach Hickman blew his top, for that penalty nullified a long touchdown run. As the referee paced off the penalty yardage, a furious Hickman ran along the sidelines yelling angrily:

"Hey ref, what team are you on, anyway? It's hard enough to beat Princeton without having the referee playing for them. You stink! You stink! "

The referee promptly slapped another penalty against Yale, and paced off an additional fifteen yards. Then he turned around, and said sweetly to the speechless Yale coach: "How do I smell to you from here, Mr. Hickman?"
