Bookmakers and sports
The bookmaker suddenly fell ill and his anxious son hovered at the bedside. "Don't stand around," groaned the sick man. "Get the doctor."
The boy went off and a few minutes later a doctor showed up. After he left, the sick bookie called his son in. "That wasn't my regular doctor," he growled. "What's the idea of bringing a stranger?"
"Well, I'll tell you, Pop," explained his son. "I got to the guy you wanted and I saw that his sign read, `Consultations 10-1.' I was just going in when I noticed that the doctor next door had a sign reading 12-1. So I got the one who offered the bigger odds, just like you always advise me to do."
