Joe Tinker chances it for his marriage
After he got married, Joe Tinker, immortal shortstop of the legendary "Tinker-to-Evers-to-Chance" combination, brought his new bride to watch him play. It was her first baseball game, and the happy husband made up his mind to put on a real show for her. In the first inning he hit a pop-fly that landed in the blind corner deep behind third base and just managed to beat the throw to second by a long hard slide into the bag. A moment later, he tried to score from second on a clothesline single to center, and again just made it with a headlong slide.
At the end of the inning the shortstop leaned over the rail of the stand and beamed fondly on his little wife. "How do you like it?" he asked.
"Oh, wonderful," answered the blushing bride, "but I do wish you could be a little more graceful. You fell down twice going around the bases!"
