Ben Hogan teaches shot selection golf

Ben Hogan, the caddy who rose to the eminence of one of the world's greatest golfers, had a warm spot in his heart for all caddies. Whenever he played, he always tried to make his caddy feel important.

Once, Hogan found himself with a new caddy most eager to serve him. To make the boy feel at ease in the presence of golf royalty, when this famous golf champion had a difficult shot to make, he turned to his caddy and asked:

"What club would you use here?"

Without hesitation, the caddy replied: "I'd use my number 8 iron." Ben Hogen did and was short with his shot. On the next hole, came
another difficult shot, and again he asked his caddy: "What club would you use here?"

Again the caddy replied: "My number 8 iron."

Surprised and rather amused, Hogan did and again he made a bad shot.

On the third hole, again Hogan turned to his caddy and asked him: "What club would you use here?"

Again the boy replied: "I'd use my number 8 iron."

By this time, Ben Hogan was somewhat annoyed as well as curious. So he snapped at his caddy:

"Say, what's the big idea always telling me to use the number 8 iron on every shot? Don't you know anything about this game?"

The caddy replied: "Mr. Hogan, you asked me what I'd use and I told you the truth. I'd use my number 8 iron on all shots because that's the only club I own."
