Charley Moran plays the stands football

Charley Moran, famous as the major-league umpire who made the classic remark, "They're either safe or out, fair or foul, but they're nothing till I call them!" is just as well remembered as the coach of the little Centre College football team that came north to vanquish stunned Harvard years ago. The quarterback of that great Centre College team was the equally famous Bo McMillin, All-American in 1919 and later a fine coach himself. Bo was on the bench one day and the fans in the stands began to yell in unison, "We want McMillin! We want McMillin!"

Finally Bo sprang to his feet, threw aside his blanket, and trotted over to Coach Moran.

"Do I go in?" he asked eagerly. "Who do I replace, coach?"

"You don't replace anybody," said Charley gently. "Just go run up into the stands and join your friends. They want you more than I do."
