As the third quarter drew to a close, one of the Cumberland players, his eyes glazed with fatigue, was replaced and sent out of the game. He staggered uncertainly, then turned and tottered towards the Georgia Tech sideline. When he collapsed on the bench, the Tech coach came over to him.

"Say, son," asked the coach kindly, "are you all right?"

"I'm fine," mumbled the battered player.

"You're on the wrong bench," said the coach gently.

"Oh, no, I'm not," said the player. "This is the Georgia Tech side, isn't it?"

"Yes. "

"Well, then," said the player with satisfaction, "this is the only place I'm safe. If I go back to my bench, I'm liable to get sent back in the game again!"
