John Mcgraw on umpires and baseball friends
A stranger accosted John McGraw one afternoon while on the way to the ball park. "What do you want?" barked the little Napoleon.
"How about a pass for today's game?" asked the stranger.
"Why should I give you a pass?" asked McGraw.
"I'm a friend of the umpire, Bill Klem," answered the other.
"No pass!" snapped the little Giant manager.
"Why not?" asked the stranger.
"Because you're a liar!" shouted McGraw. "No umpire ever had a friend!"
