Tiny Maxwell argues a horrible football call
The famous football referee Tiny Maxwell used to chuckle about this one dealing with penalties. He was officiating in a game which saw one of the teams having a terrible time staying within the rules. They would make a big gain through the line, and Tiny would slap a five-yard penalty on them for backfield illegally in motion.
Another big gain would draw a fifteen-yard penalty for offensive holding. Finally, the harassed team pulled a spectacular forward pass that brought the ball to the opponent's one-yard line, just as the first quarter ended.
Tiny picked up the ball and started up the field for the change of goals. As he passed midfield, the captain of the team in possession could not hold himself in any longer.
"Have a heart!" he screamed at Maxwell. "You're handing us the most unfair penalty I ever saw!"
