Why was Tom Harmon a good football player

Tom Harmon of the University of Michigan won All-American honors in both 1939 and 1940. World War II temporarily blocked his Pro-Football career, but it indelibly understored the strength of his character and the vast physical and mental reservoir that he had built up as a football player.

As an Air Force pilot he had to bail out two different times in dense jungles hundreds of miles from his air base. Miraculously he survived the hardships, the privations, and his injuries to return safely each time he was "lost". Upon his return from active service he played for the Los Angeles Rams. He has really found himself as a sports announcer and commentator. His handling of a football game or any spatting event rings with "man-to-man" sincerity and comprehensive authenticity.
