How to take care of archery equipment

Care of Equipment- - The best of archery tackle will rapidly deteriorate without proper care.

A bow should not be overdrawn or drawn without an arrow. Bows kept near a radiator for a long time will dry out and are apt to break when used again. An unheated room is the best place to keep them. Sudden jerks on the bow string are very apt to crack or break the bow. When not in use a bow should be suspended by the string.

Arrows should be given the same care as bows. They are subjected to severe treatment which oftentimes breaks them, such as hitting the target stands, glancing off the side of the targets, or encountering a strong lateral wind. Damp weather will also cause damage to the arrows if proper care is not taken. Arrows can be straightened by bending them over the hand very carefully.

Bow strings should be waxed frequently to protect them and to keep them from fraying out. When the serving becomes worn, it should be replaced with a new one - this preserves the life of the string.

Targets deteriorate from moisture rapidly and therefore should be covered when left outdoors to prevent them from getting wet.
