What is an ankle lock and ankle taping
In making a place kick or even an almost extinct drop kick the kicker must lock his ankle just prior to the impact of his foot to the lower half of the upright football.
With the introduction of speed shoes reasembling mocassins with a hard sole and cleats, ankle taping became a necessity. In recent years it has become almost an art. Usually only one or two lineman on a team still wear the old hightops. Poorly taped ankles can lose a player and sometimes a game.
