Babe Ruth's legendary sense of humor

Fabled Babe Ruth's greatest asset in life was an ability to laugh, and also make the baseball world laugh at his hilarious escapades. When the immortal Babe was in full flower as the greatest home-run hitter of all time, Marshall Foch, France's greatest general in the first World War, visited Yankee Stadium to see a baseball game for the first time. Babe Ruth was delegated to bid the war hero welcome.

When those two great men met, the Babe looked at Marshall Foch's handsome powder-blue uniform, and the many nledals and decorations on his chest, forgot his welcome-speech, and blurted out:

"Hey, General! They tell me you were in the war!"
