Knute Rockne prayer and cussing

In his early years as the head football coach of Notre Dame, the immortal Knute Rockne swore like a trooper during practice sessions with his team, even in the presence of the priests who dared to come and watch the players. One of the regular attendants at practice was the gentle Father Hennessy who had great influence over Notre Dame athletics. However, coach Rockne's sulphurous cussing never turned a hair on the good Father's head.

One afternoon, Rockne let fly with a particularly salty stream of oaths.

All eyes turned to the imperturbable Father Hennessy standing on the sidelines. There was no doubt that he had heard every syllable. The food Father merely sighed, raised his eyes heavenward, and said, loud enough for the coach to hear: "Oh, Glory be to God! There goes Mr. Rockne saying his prayers again."
