Ralph Kiner on having a baby and pregnancy
When Ralph Kiner, one-time home-run king of the major leagues, married the one-time United States tennis champion, Nancy Chafee, he vowed to his baseball buddies that he would beat his famous wife at tennis.
Well, Mr. and Mrs. Kiner started to play, and after being married six months, Ralph never lost a set at tennis by a score worse than 6-2. Mter one year of marriage, he never lost a set to his wife by a score worse than 6-4. After a year and one-half of marriage, his wife beat him by a score of no worse than 7-5.
Then it finally happened. There came a day when Ralph Kiner beat his famous wife at tennis, winning no less than two straight sets.
Happily, he informed his baseball buddies of the great tennis feat he had accomplished. However, when pressed for full details of his tennis victory over 4is wife, he reluctantly and somewhat embarrassedly con fessed:
"Well, fellers, you see, she had a bad day when I licked her. She's only eight months pregnant."
