A rooster who was strutting his stuff in a chicken yard that backed up to a football stadium was nearly frightened to death one afternoon when a football bounded over the fence and landed at his feet. After a few moments, the puzzled rooster sidled over to the pigskin. He took a few pecks at it and backed away hurriedly. Then he strutted back, pecked at it again, and made a couple of passes with his wings. Then he glared at it until he felt firmly convinced that what he saw was not a figment of his imagination. Satisfied at last, he rushed over to the henhouse and stuck in his head.

"Come on out here, girls," he chirped, "and make it snappy!" The hens filed out meekly and formed a semicircle around the rooster. "All right, now," continued the rooster, "listen to me! I don't mean to make any of you feel bad. You've been doing pretty good work, considering, but take a look at that" -and he indicated the football-"and see for yourselves what they're turning out in some of the other yards around here!"
