Pitcher fights in baseball

Boys will come to blows and so will ballplayers, which is no secret to any newspaperman who follows a baseball club. One of the best brawls that ever took place on a ball club was one that occurred many years ago on a railroad car when a National League team was on its way to New York to play an important series that would mean a great deal in the standings. For some reason or other, the tough manager of the team and his scrappy star pitcher tangled in the aisle of the car and the battle raged up and down between the seats for nearly half an hour.

When it ended, the car was almost a wreck, and the two men were bruised, battered and bleeding. Exhausted with their efforts and nearly stripped to the waist, they sank into opposite seats and glared at each other. Suddenly the manager grinned through cracked lips.

"That reminds me," he said painfully, "I meant to tell you earlier that you're pitching the first game tomorrow."
