Joe McCarthy teaches how to handle the press

Among the reporters waiting to greet the New York Yankees as they arrived at Grand Central sporting a 17-game winning streak some years ago, was a young cub who sought out and grabbed manager Joe McCarthy as he stepped off the train. "How do you do, Mr. McCarthy," said the youngster politely. "How are the Yankees going?"

Marse Joe tipped back his hat and looked down at the brash young man. "Well," he answered at last, "I guess you could quote me as saying that they're doing fairly well but there's room for improvement. You see, we're only licking one team at a time right now."
