Sharapova Left off Russion Federation Cup Team

Maria Sharapova was left off the Russian team going to the Federation Cup. Maria Sharapova is ranked third in the world as of this moment. Why would you choose not to have her on your team?

It appears that Maria Sharapova is being coy with her Russian comrades. According to this BBC report there are two reasons she's being left off:

  1. She is tired. Supposedly playing a few tournaments in a row tires her out. Don't believe it. She is queen of endurance.
  2. She wants to play for the United States. This I believe. She's spent most of her life in the states and it makes sense she'd want to play for them.
