Marion Jones .. gasp ... does well at FBK Games

Crap. I may have swallowed the big foot on this one. Marion Jones ran today and I was constantly searching the news feeds for anything Marion Jones related. It finally came up. Marion Jones finished second today at the FBK games.

I don't know what to think now. Was it a fluke? Is she using? Let's get to the results.

Let's look at her time in the 100 meters. It was 11.29 seconds. She ran 11.28 on April 30, which was her first 100 meters of the year. It appears she's slipping.

Now, let's look at who finished first and third. Chandra Sturrup of the Bahamas won the race in 11.15, and Britain's Joice Maduaka was third in 11.46. Ouch. Big time difference.

Let's keep in mind that Marion Jones' best time ever in the 100 meters is 10.65 seconds.

Marion Jones, never at a loss for words, said:

"I'm ready to run fast, and I am in training. I just have to prove it on the track. I'm fit, not overweight, like back in the day."

Um, Marion, you're still a half second off your best time. And you're older. And you've had a kid. And you supposedly did drugs that you are supposedly off now.

Finishing second in a race featuring few world class sprinters is nothing to hang your hat on.

And let's just take a quick gander at the 2004 Summer Games in Athens for some perspective. Here are the women's 100m finals:

Hmmm. None of the women in the top 3 at the FBK games would have even qualified for the finals at the 2004 Summer Olympic games in Athens.

Whew. I thought I was going to have a lunch of foot served cold. Nope. Same old crapiness from Marion Jones.
