US under 20 soccer team beats Egpyt to win their group
The United States under 20 soccer team is on the cusp of something great. They beat Egypt 1-0 to win their group. Argentina came in second, followed by Germany in third.
Freddy Adu entered the game at the 55th minute and quickly made a difference. His shot on goal was deflected, but Jacob Peterson was able to easily score on a header.
Freddy Adu said:
That's what you are put in the game for, right. The game wasn't going too well, to be honest. There were chances we weren't finishing, and my goal was to create something, make something happen. I did just that and we won the game.
United States under 20 head coach Sigi Schmid isn't concerned about the lack of goals:
It was something we talked about as a team and I said, ‘I know what you guys are doing, you’re trying to save your goals for the later rounds.’ Sometimes it just doesn’t bounce right for you, but again I wasn’t pleased overall with the amount of chances we created today. We didn’t create today, but hopefully the goals are going to fall in the next round.
United States under 20 Goalkeeper Quentin Westberg said it best about the win:
They were calling this the ‘Group of Death,’ so it is a great achievement for the United States to come out on top. I think we’ve played some great games even though we didn’t play well today. As we move on we’ll have to play better.
